Patient Transport
Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS)
The Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) provides transport for patients who, due to a medical condition or mobility needs, are unable to travel to or from healthcare appointments by any other means. [bsw.icb.nhs.uk]
This includes transport to and from:
- Hospital or clinic appointments
- Hospital discharge
- Transfers between healthcare settings
Who provides the service?
NEPTS across Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon is provided on behalf of the NHS by EMED Group (formerly E‑zec Medical Transport Services). [adults.wil...ire.gov.uk]
Am I eligible?
Eligibility is based on national criteria set by the Department of Health. [bsw.icb.nhs.uk]
You may qualify if:
- Your medical condition means you cannot travel by other means without it affecting your health
- Your mobility prevents you from using alternative transport
- You need support or care from trained staff during the journey
All patients must be assessed before transport can be arranged.
How to book transport
To request transport, you (or someone on your behalf) need to contact the Patient Transport Advice Centre (PTAC).
The number you should call depends on the location of your GP surgery. For example:
- Wiltshire patients: 01278 727410 [emedgroup.co.uk]
PTAC will assess your eligibility and, if appropriate, arrange your transport.
